Shillong
Meghalaya is an unending romance between tall pine trees and drifting clouds. Hence the name “Meghalaya” – the abode of clouds. The British were so captivated by its beauty that they referred to it as the ‘Scotland of the East’. The Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills dominate the enchanting landscape of the state.

Shillong
Shillong is the capital city of Meghalaya. A renowned hill station, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. The British named it the ‘Scotland of the East’ for its cool climate and serene landscapes. Beautiful lakes and waterfalls create a perfect setting for visitors. The highest peak here, Shillong Peak, offers breathtaking views. Elephant Falls, the Butterfly Museum, Lady Hydari Park and the Golf Course are some of the well-known attractions.
Cherrapunjee
Situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft above sea level, Cherrapunjee is famously known as one of the wettest places in the world. It has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for its exceptionally high annual rainfall. Picturesque valleys and rivers enhance its charm. Cherrapunjee is also famous for its living root bridges, created by the indigenous Khasi people.
Nartiang
Nartiang is located in the Jaintia Hills district. With a diameter of nearly 100 m, it is home to a cluster of monoliths, believed to be among the tallest in the world. Their erection is considered one of the most significant events of the Jaintia era. The Shiva Temple here is also a major attraction, historically used to store arms and ammunition of the Jaintia rulers.
Waterfalls
Sweet Falls, located in Happy Valley, is one of Meghalaya’s most stunning waterfalls. Rengthiam Falls is another enchanting cascade. Bishop and Beadon Falls, situated in Suna Valley, are equally breathtaking. Other popular waterfalls include Elephant Falls and Spread Eagle Falls, both known for their serene and picturesque surroundings.

Air: Meghalaya does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is in Guwahati.
Rail: The closest railway station is also in Guwahati.
