Meghalaya

Shillong

Meghalaya is an unending romance between tall pine trees and drifting clouds. Hence the name “Meghalaya” – the abode of clouds. The British were so captivated by its beauty that they referred to it as the ‘Scotland of the East’. The Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills dominate the enchanting landscape of the state.

Shillong is the capital city of Meghalaya. A renowned hill station, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. The highest peak here, Shillong Peak, offers breathtaking views. Elephant Falls, the Butterfly Museum, Lady Hydari Park and the Golf Course are some of the well-known attractions.

Situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft above sea level, Cherrapunjee is famously known as one of the wettest places in the world. It has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for its exceptionally high annual rainfall. Picturesque valleys and rivers enhance its charm.
