Sikkim

Gangtok

Small but beautiful. Sikkim is situated at the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga and boasts an unexplored charm. So enchanting is its Alpine beauty that it is often called the "Switzerland of the East." The majestic views of snow-capped mountains, lakes, wildlife, monasteries, and many more attractions make it a captivating destination.

Main Attractions

Gangtok
Gangtok, literally meaning “hill top,” is a scenic hilly town well known as the land of monasteries. It is home to people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The presence of Buddhists, Chinese, Tibetans, and Hindus gives Gangtok a colorful ambiance. The town is full of gompas, stupas, parks, and gardens. Popular attractions in and around Gangtok include Rumtek, Tsomgo Lake, Hanuman Tok, Changu Lake, Deer Park, and more.

Nathula

Nathula
Nathula Pass was a major trade corridor between India and Tibet before its closure in 1962. Situated at an altitude of 14,450 ft, it is one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The pass is marked by the entrance gates of both countries (India and China), along with military bunkers on each side. Nearby attractions include two prominent pilgrimage sites—one for Buddhists and one for Hindus. The Buddhist pilgrimage is Lhasa, also known as the “Roof of the World,” while the Hindu pilgrimage is the holy Mansarovar Lake, considered the place of spiritual liberation.

Yumthang Valley
Yumthang Valley is a stunning valley, famously known as the “Valley of Flowers.” It is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, featuring around 24 species of rhododendron—the state flower of Sikkim. Major attractions include Chungthang and the picturesque Sikkim countryside. Visitors also explore nearby Lachung and Kanchenjunga National Park. The valley is especially popular among trekking enthusiasts.

Monasteries
Sikkim is home to nearly 200 monasteries, reflecting its rich cultural heritage and traditional lifestyle. Guru Padmasambhava is the presiding deity in all monasteries. The sight of red-robed lamas chanting sacred mantras, accompanied by the sound of drums, trumpets, and whirring prayer wheels, is truly captivating. Prominent monasteries include Rumtek, Phensang, Phodong, Enchey, Pemayangtse, and others.
